SC Palms and Psalms seal

The story

Where the palmetto
meets the Psalms.

Two words that were always meant to sit together. The palms of the South Carolina coast, and the psalms people here have sung under them for three hundred years.

The name

Palms.

In the Lowcountry the palmetto is more than a tree. It is the flag, the coast, the shade you grew up in. And in scripture, palms are what people laid down in praise. One word, both meanings, on purpose.

& Psalms

Psalms.

One hundred and fifty songs of honesty. Joy, grief, fear, gratitude, all of it said out loud to God. If a shirt is going to say anything at all, it may as well say something that has lasted three thousand years.

The mark, piece by piece

Anatomy of the seal.

The palmetto

Straight from the state flag. Home, printed in the center of everything.

The crescent

The gorget from the flag’s corner, gold for the morning it points toward.

The open book

The Psalms, open, never closed. The roots of the palm reach into its pages.

The heart trunk

Look close. The trunk is a stack of hearts. That is the quality standard here.

O sing unto the LORD a new song.
Psalm 96:1
